Pastor David Ball, a born and bred Southerner, begins his study of the doxology that introduces the book of Ephesians, with a litany of favorite Southern expressions: fixin' to, hill of beans, I reckon. The list goes on and on. But perhaps the most popular Southern colloquialism is "bless your heart," a phrase laced with insincerity and pity. In reality, the cultural concept of being blessed is always material. God's definition of blessing says so much more as noted in this famous doxology from Paul. Blessing is eternal, flowing from God to us and back to God. Pastor David advises us to keep our eyes on that ball.
