There are many ways to get connected and serve at Church of Our Savior. It is our hope and prayer that all who call COOS their church home will get involved in the life of our family. We are committed to worshipping God, loving one another, and sharing the Good News of Christ with those around us. You can help us in this mission by getting involved by using your gifts and passions for the glory of God and the growth of His Kingdom. Below are some of the ways you can serve at COOS.
Sunday Worship Support Teams
On Sunday mornings ushers are essential to the smooth flow of our worship services. The ushers not only greet people at the door and hand out bulletins, they are responsible for maintaining the order and flow of the congregants during the service. If you would like to help on Sunday mornings as an Usher please contact the head of our Usher Team, Haywood Ball at email@example.com or 904-631-5754.
If you have ever wondered how the altar table looks so beautiful ever Sunday, then you need to know that it comes with lots of love and hard work. The Altar Guild sets up the table for Sunday mornings and helps take care of all the items that are needed for our time of Communion together. We are always looking for new members to join our team as we serve the Lord and His people. If you would like to help please contact Barbara Zelusky at firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-710-0052.
Our Flower Guild Team has a passion for dressing up our sanctuary with the beauty of God’s creation. The flowers on Sunday mornings are sometimes given in memorial for a loved one or in thanksgiving for an important event and the flower team makes sure that their arrangements fit well into the liturgical life of the church. If you would like to join the Flower Guild please contact Anne Ball at email@example.com or 904-616-2645.
Sunday Morning Greeters
In addition to our usher team we have a Sunday Morning Greeter Team who specifically are charged with looking for guests and visitors on a Sunday morning. It is our purpose to reach people with the hope of the Good News of Jesus Christ and our greeters help to make our guests feel as comfortable as possible so that they are free to enjoy our worship service and engage with the Word of God. If you consider yourself a warm and outgoing person we would love for you to serve on this team. Please contact Pastor David at firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-821-8558.
Acolytes serve as assistants to the ministers during the Sunday service. They process in the cross and Bible and from time to time other elements of the service. During the service they also help to assist the ministers with the setting of the table and the collecting of the offertory. There is no age restriction on our acolytes, only that they are big enough to carry the different elements and mature enough to follow instructions. If you are interested in serving on this team or would like to sign up your child please contact Pastor David at email@example.com or 904-821-8558.
Every Sunday we have at least two readings from God’s Holy Word that are read aloud for the congregation by members of the laity. Our Sunday readers are given the Sunday readings during the week so that they can familiarize themselves with the tone of the passage as well as any difficult pronunciations. If you would like to join this team please contact Pastor David at firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-821-8558.
Prayers of the People
It is a wonderful privilege that we have to offer up our prayers to a God who hears us and promises to answer our prayers as may be best for us. In our tradition we have a special time each Sunday to offer up these prayers together as a congregation. These Prayers of the People are led and directed by a member of the laity, who uses the form prescribed for the day. If you are interested in serving in this capacity please contact Pastor David at email@example.com or 904-821-8558.
Healing Prayer Team
It is God’s desire to bring all honor and glory to His Son Jesus Christ through the power of healing prayer. This is testified to in the Holy Scriptures and witnessed in the church for thousands of years. During our services on Sunday we invite all who desire, to visit our prayer teams in the back of the church. If you would like to help in this ministry or would like to learn more about healing prayer please contact Mary Baron at firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-704-2640.
Sunday mornings can be hectic enough trying to get to church on time and make sure all your loved ones are taken care of. The last thing anyone needs is any confusion or difficulty in our parking lot. To help direct people in an out of our facility we have a parking ministry that is tasked with helping you to make sure that your travels in and out of our facility are as smooth and seamless as possible. If you are interested in helping with this ministry please contact Bill White at email@example.com or 904-252-9862.
At Church of Our Savior we are dedicated to serving the youngest and most vulnerable in our midst along with their parents. During our 9:00am worship service we have a nursery available for infants through age four. We have a full-time paid Nursery Director as well as a part-time Nursery Assistant, but we still need volunteers who are willing to serve on a monthly rotation to help care for our little ones. If you are interested in helping please contact Roxane Andrade at firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-534-0030.
Believe it or not one of the greatest challenges during our Sunday worship service is the regulation and control of our audio projection. We have a wonderful new audio system, but for the first time we are looking for help to run the system during morning services. New members of the audio team do not need to know everything about audio systems and will be trained on how to use our new equipment. If you would like to be involved with our Audio Team please contact our Music Director, Rebecca Stevens at email@example.com or 904-631-3588.
Do you love to sing? Do you love to lift your voice in praise and thanksgiving to God for the goodness of His grace and love? Then the choir is calling your name. We are always looking for men and women, boys and girls who are willing to help lead our Sunday morning singing. The choir helps to draw God’s people to His throne of Grace as they together with the Heavenly Choir of Angels offer up their voices to the Lord. If you would like to join our Choir please contact our Music Director, Rebecca Stevens at
firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-631-3588.
Maybe audio systems or singing is not your thing, but you have the gift of being able to play a musical instrument. Well we would love for you to join our music team by lending your gift to the Lord on Sunday mornings during worship. If you are interested please contact our Music Director, Rebecca Stevens at email@example.com or 904-631-3588.
Every Sunday morning after our worship services we have light refreshments available to the congregation. This is a great time to gather and catch up with your church family. We need help setting up the refreshments and making sure they are replenished and tended to throughout our time of fellowship together. If you are interested in serving on a volunteer rotation with our hospitality team please contact Jen Crews at firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-444-0896.
During our time of Communion we invite lay members of Church of Our Savior to help serve as Chalice Bearers. Chalice Bearers take the chalice of wine and help distribute it to God’s people during Communion. If you are interested in becoming a Sunday morning Chalice Bearer please contact Pastor David at email@example.com or 904-249-3332.
Non Sunday Worship Support Teams
Tuesday Intercessor Prayer Team
Prayer does not begin or end on Sunday mornings. We have a dedicated prayer team that meets at the church every Tuesday to prayer for the needs of our congregation. The intercessory prayer team prays for people who are in need as well as the mission and activities of the church. If you would like to be a part of this front line ministry of the church please contact Lynette Matthews at firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-699-4661.
Grounds and Facilities Team
At Church of Our Savior we are just beginning to learn all that is involved in maintaining our own church property. Our Junior Warden is tasked by the vestry (our leadership team) to maintain the facilities, but he needs your help. If you are willing and interested in serving on a team that will help assist our Junior Warden will you please contact Marshall Gallop at email@example.com or 904-662-2634.
Keeping our church safe all the time is our number one priority. We have put a lot of our financial resources into creating a safe environment, but we need help in making sure that it stays that way. If you are willing to serve on a team that will help the Junior Warden in keeping our facility secure please contact Marshall Gallop at firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-662-2634.
Office and Administration Team
Weekly there are many needs in the office of the church. From helping to answer phone to folding Sunday bulletins there is more work to be done than our Church Administrator can possibly accomplish on her own. We are looking for help in the office during the week to help support all the ministry that we are doing on Sunday mornings and throughout the week. If you are willing to serve in this capacity please contact Patti Brodeur at email@example.com or 904-821-8558.
Youth Group Volunteer Leadership
We are blessed at Church of Our Savior to have a Youth Group that seeks to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with our middle and high school students. This is an important and formative time in a young person’s life and we are looking for volunteers who are willing to help love, encourage, and teach our young people in the ways of the Lord. If you are interested in being a part of this ministry please contact Bryan Crews at firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-610-2425.
Trail Life Leadership
Trail Life is a ministry of the church to boys, with the purpose of raising them up into men in Christ. This ministry meets during the week and uses adventure and leadership training to teach them about Christ and His great love for the world. Trail Life is like Boy Scouts, but with the purpose of glorifying Jesus Christ and raising up the next generation of Christian leaders. If you are interested in helping this ministry please contact Chris McCarthy at Chris@JaxMC.net or 904-885-6478.
American Heritage Girls Leadership
American Heritage Girls is, like Trail Life, a ministry of the church that seeks to raise up young girls into women who love and serve the Lord. AHG meets with Trail Life weekly as a group and then breaks up into their own unique time of teaching and instruction. If you are interested in helping with this ministry please contact Chris McCarthy at Chris@JaxMC.net or 904-885-6478.
It is often said that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, while that is not always true there is something to it. There is nothing like food to bring people together. Our Kitchen Team works hard to help prepare and organize our church food needs. If you would like to be a part of this ministry please contact Roxane Andrade at email@example.com or 904-534-0030.
Avante Nursing Home Team
At Church of Our Savior we have the great privilege of serving the men and women of Avante Nursing Home in Jacksonville Beach. Ever Tuesday we lead a Communion service for all those who would like to participate. Most of our participants are people who are unable to live without assistance and therefore this is their only connection to the church. If you would like to help with this service, whether it be with music or setting up the Communion table we would love to have you. Please contact Pastor Jim if you are interested at firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-699-9658.
“Unto Others” Servant Ministry
Unto Others is a ministry of compassion that is tasked with reaching out to those in our congregation who are in need. This ministry seeks to reach out in love to those who are hurting in any way with the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. You do not need to be a trained counselor to simply love people through acts of mercy, so if you would like to join “Unto Others” please contact Sandy Branch at email@example.com or 904-652-6623.
Lay Eucharistic Ministry
Our LEM ministry is designed to help assist the clergy by extending our Sunday service to those who are unable to attend Sunday morning services. Our LEMs are trained to share from God’s Word and distribute Communion as a way of keeping those who are in need connected to the greater body of Christ. If you are interested in serving in this ministry please contact Pastor David at firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-821-8558.
